There is currently an exhibition at Eastern Michigan University's Ford Gallery entitled "EMU, Circa '69". It documents the work of some very amazing and influential artists and professors in the local area. Many of the exhibitors fall into the category of “my own beloved mentors and under recognized personal champions".
Seems that Vito Acconci was scheduled to make an appearance at the opening and then, as last minute super hero changes will often do -- was a no show -- to the disappointment of the attendees.
Our heroes, why oh why do they so regularly disappoint us?

Maybe being a hero is an incredible drain that disappointments are inevitable?
i think you are quite right... i too have disappointed others in simply being myself when otherwise expected to perform...
